Half way through the year 2002 among the cove leaders from the Fifth Region emerged the idea to establish an alliance that allows us to have better negotiating abilities and for our clients to count with more reliable suppliers as far as contract fulfillment, terms of the country and quality of the goods.
In this manner and under the protection of SERCOTEC Fifth Region, we began to inquire about the existing conditions of the market. These inquiries were in relation to the main resources extracted from our Handling Area; resources such as Chilean abalone (Loco) and keyhole limpet. The research showed that the prices reached by the goods in different markets showed the existing gap between the fishermen¡¯s earnings and the amount paid for the goods at the point of sales. This research made the cove leaders aware of the need to have a Commercialization Enterprise to group together in a partnership called ¡°Cooperation PACIFICOOP¡±.
